Elections will be required for the following positions:
Mayor (elected ‘at large’)
Councillors (8)
Kaiwaka-Mangawhai Ward (3)
Otamatea Ward (2)
Wairoa Ward (3)
(Note: Council resolved to abolish its Māori ward in 2024.)
Northland Regional Council Members - either:
1 member from the Kaipara Constituency, or
1 member from the Coastal South General Constituency; or
2 members from the Te Raki Māori Constituency
The first past the post (FPP) electoral system will be used for the Kaipara District Council and the Northland Regional Council elections. This simply means that the candidate with the most votes wins. You get one vote and that vote goes to one candidate.
You will be voting for 1 councillor from your ward and you will have a vote for your preferred mayoral candidate.
